AT MIDNIGHT: FIFTEEN BELOVED FAIRY TALES REIMAGINED edited by Dahlia Adler

My very first book of 2023 was At Midnight: Fifteen Beloved Fairy Tales Reimagined, edited by Dahlia Adler. There were so many good authors in here – Darcie Little Badger, Stacey Lee, Malinda Lo, Melissa Albert, and more. I was introduced to YA authors I’d never even read before which was great. And who doesn’t love a good fairy tale? Rumpelstiltskin, The Little Matchstick Girl, Puss in Boots, and Cinderella just to name a few, were updated and reimagined. Rumpelstiltskin is a coding genius, Hansel and Gretel walk into a restaurant for rich cannibals, and Little Red Riding Hood tricks the thieving “Wolf” out of some money for her sick granny. All the stories were great and very fun, and some were downright creepy (just like the Brothers Grimm intended). A highly recommended short story collection for any fairy tale fan.
